Battery Care
All new batteries are shipped fully discharged, a new battery must be charged for 16 hours, the 16 hour charge initialises the battery, on some occasions the battery indicates a full charge prematurely, please ignore this and start the charging process again, it may take 4-5 full charge/discharge cyles for the battery to reach full capacity. Some Laptop computer batteries will need calibrating, please refer to the original manufacturers instructions.
Battery Types
Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)
Li-Ion batteries are now commonplace in most Laptop computers, it is claimed that Li-Ion batteries do not suffer from the memory effect problem, we would still consider it good housekeeping to fully discharge the battery from time to time (monthly) or use the battery as often as possible regardless of whether a mains socket is nearby.
Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
Ni-MH batteries often supercede the older Ni-Cd batteries, these units suffer from memory effect also, but not to the same extent as Ni-Cd, again we would recommend fully discharging the unit as often as possible (monthly).
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Ni-Cd batteries were used in most early Laptop computers, we would recommend fully discharging the unit on every use if practical.
Battery Refurbishing
If we are unable to replace your Laptop battery we may be able to refurbish it for you, we can only refurbish Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries, Li-Ion batteries contain complex control circuitry and can not be re-worked. Refurbishing involves carefully opening the old battery and replacing the cells with new ones, our units are warranted for 1 year, please contact us and advise the battery voltage, the voltage determines the number of cells and costs involved.
